TRAXX

Traxx is a music lover, with a passion so intense that he overcomes every gender barrier, weaving an original, engaging and nuanced musical fabric. His music embraces both the most passionate clubber and the domestic listener, without excluding anyone in between.

He's not content to simply be labeled as a DJ, producer, or DJ/producer. Traxx defines himself as a real “sound artist” — a distinctive and extremely emotional sound, which escapes classification and invites analysis and discussion. From eclectic, avant-garde tracks to old-school jack tracks and beyond, Traxx listens to everything without discrimination, prejudice or elitism.

He has released music on numerous underground labels in the United States and Europe, including Gigolo, Relief, Muzique, M/O/S and Crème. His works have been released under a multitude of aliases, including Dirty Criminals, XX Art, Mysterio, ViLLan X, Saturn V (with Tadd Mullinix), X2, and many others. He has also collaborated with key underground figures to shape his personal definition of Jakbeat, a sound born in the early years between 2005 and 2007 together with JTC and D'Marc Cantu.

In addition to releasing music for other labels, in April 2007 Traxx founded his own label, Nation, thus allowing him to develop and rework the different facets of his sound.

In 2009 he launched his first album 'Faith', released under his own name on his Chicago label, Nation. The album received positive feedback around the world.

Like many in Chicago, Traxx got closer to house music thanks to legendary WBMX radio shows and two decisive experiences at Music Box, Ron Hardy's iconic club. Recounting his first encounter with the house, he recalls:

“Nothing could be compared to what was happening, it was a period of discovery... this phase stuck with me because of the intense energy that animated it. It's a feeling, an emotion, a mental state of transcendental connection — a spiritual force that is manifested through the body.”

His first release appeared in the early 2000s on DJ Hell's Gigolo label, under the collective The Dirty Criminals, a Chicago crew that included collaborators such as Charles Manier, Mystic Bill Torres, Daryl “Deecoy” Cura, Matt Nee (Kompute), Josh Werner, Stephen Hitchell and Jamal Moss (aka Hieroglyphic Being).

In addition to several vinyl singles, Dirty Criminals have released two highly appreciated albums in Europe:

“Organized Confusion” (2004)

“Collision Between Us And The Damned” (2006)

The latter included a cover of an unreleased version of Phuture's 'Acid Tracks', which circulated in clubs in Chicago.

Traxx also lent his voice to the track 'Let No Man Jack', on DJ Hell's album 'NY Muscle' on Gigolo. However, it is mainly through his mysterious vinyls that he has left an indelible mark on the scene. For the past seven years, his production has continued to set fire to the dance floors, with the unmistakable sound of Jakbeat.

Among his most significant works are:

“Adjustment Production” for Gavin Russom (LCD Soundsystem), released under the Mutant Beat Dance project, a cosmic journey between deep disco and experimentation.

“Another World/New News Is Old News”, released for the New York label Rong Records.

“Poetic Painter M” on MOS Deep, a hypnotic and frenetic house track, which recalls the Newbeat and the glacial atmospheres of the new age.

“Let Me Go”, an release by Mutant Beat Dance with the voice of Naughty Wood, published on Rush Hour, defined as “the best 80s house record ever made in the 80s”, inspired by the early days of house music.

In the era of digital perfection, Traxx remains analog. He plays vinyl when he is at the console and uses hardware in the studio. His sound recalls the past, but points straight to the future with a highly emotional and experimental approach.
